Featured speaker: Linda Beutler, renowned clematis specialist from Rogerson's Clematis, will be speaking about growing in the high desert.
Linda Beutler grows a great variety of plants on a simple city lot in the Sellwood neighborhood of Portland, Oregon. Her passion for clematis led to the publication of her
first book, Gardening with Clematis (2004) followed by two more Timber Press titles:
Garden to Vase (2007), and 2016’s Plant Lovers Guide to Clematis. But before clematis, there were cutting gardens and old garden roses.
Linda serves as curator of the Rogerson Clematis Collection (owned by the non-profit Friends of the Rogerson Clematis Collection), North America’s only accredited clematis
collection, and she is the acting President of the International Clematis Society (and still serves on the Council). In July 2018 she was presented a Golden Clematis Award by the International Clematis Society for her service to the Society and the genus Clematis.
She has at last retired as an adjunct instructor of horticulture at Clackamas Community College (CCC) after 30 years of passing along her passion—and persnickety attention to nomenclatural detail—to her herbaceous perennials students (including color theory, cultivation, and design).
She also taught classes on floral design and cutting gardens for home and commerce. In the summer of 2026, Linda led a workshop on lilies for the Hardy Plant Society of Oregon, as she becomes more involved with the North American Lily Society.
Linda lectures internationally on a variety of gardening topics, most recently on the Isle
of Guernsey for the International Clematis Society and is an avid garden traveler. One of her favorite destinations is the shale barrens of Virginia, where little grows except clematis. Look for her public webinar content at www.clematisinternational.com
